(New York, March 5, 2012) — An accomplished group of graduates from the MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Department at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) have donated original work to create 29 x 29, a limited-edition photography portfolio, the sale of which will benefit The Center for Arts Education (CAE), a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that New York City public school students receive quality arts education throughout their K-12 school years. An exhibition of the work selected for the portfolio project will be on view at Bruce Silverstein Gallery, 529 West 20th Street, 3rd floor, New York City, from April 19 – 21, 2012. The exhibition “29 x 29” is co-presented by The Center for Arts Education, the MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Department at SVA and Bruce Silverstein Gallery.
Rising to the vanguard of their field, the artists of “29 x 29” have had their work exhibited internationally at institutions including the Museum of Modern Art; the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Walker Art Center; the Guggenheim Museum; the J. Paul Getty Museum and Tate Modern, among others, and have had their work featured in publications including The New York Times, The New Yorker, ARTnews and Art in America. The 29 participating artists are: Adam Bell, Alison Brady, Margarida Correia, Kate Cunningham, Rachel Feierman, Abigail Feldman, Sarina Finkelstein, Christopher Fisher, Shuli Hallak, Thomas Holton, Shai Kremer, Molly Landreth, Gina Levay, Jeff Liao, Karen Moscovitch, Yamini Nayar, Rachel Papo, Suellen Parker, Matthew Pillsbury, Nicholas Prior, Kanako Sasaki, Sarah Schorr, Alix Smith, Amy Stein, Lorenzo Triburgo, Jan Wandrag, Shen Wei, JeongMee Yoon and Nina Young.

EXHIBITION: 3rd Dali International Photo Exhibition
Installation shots from the 3rd Dali International Photography Exhibition with its theme of "Life Is Elsewhere," in the historic and scenic city of Dali, Southwest China's Yunnan Province. There were more than 4000 pieces of photographic works, over 100 renowned photographers from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, United States, France, Britain, Germany, Finland, Australia and Singapore all taking part in the event. It is the biggest photo exhibition in Yunnan. The 5-day theme activities were scheduled from September 25th to 29th and the exhibition lasted until October 7th. AuthentiCity / illy issimo / SVA installation photos
Well, in the illy issimo/SVA "Authenticity" project, I lost out in the final five. But, I made it to the final 20 for the exhibition in Milan. The space was on the second floor of an exhibition space on Via Tortona - the heart of Salone di Mobile in SW Milan. Installation photographs below.

BIO: Sarina Finkelstein (b. Columbia, MO) received her BFA and MFA in Photography from Washington University in St. Louis and SVA, respectively. Her work has been featured in TIME.com, GOOD, Esquire (NL) and Time Out NY. She is most attracted to photographing non-celebrities and the spaces they inhabit.
WORK DESCRIPTION:
On Stage in Central Park is a series of portraits of Central Park artists and buskers. It highlights the free-spirited characters that break social barriers and invite people to share a show and a laugh with a complete stranger. Central Park has become a haven for performers, many of whom see it as a place where they can live out their fantasies, exhibiting their individual talents and art forms. They transform benches, museum steps, curbs, tree stumps and lawns into “stages.” This collection documents the beat and pulse of the city through the microcosm of Central Park, illustrating its diversity, moments of silence as well as those of bustling energy. The dynamic and vibrant entertainers in the photographs are highlighted in the act of performing, often seducing crowds into participating, and they are also featured in solitary and intimate pictures of them practicing and waiting for passersby, both of which encompass this unique public spectacle.
